The art of songwriting and making music - is sacred territory for me. I say that with every ounce of my being.

And every minute spent inside a recording studio is deeply cherished, to the degree where gravity ceases to exist. Writing and recording songs gives me that opportunity to convey my appreciation for being alive. 

It gives me an opportunity to pay homage and say a heartfelt "Thank You" to the entire spectrum of musical artists - past and present, who continue to move and inspire me. 

It gives me an opportunity to wonder at, articulate, and reflect on some of the overwhelming metaphors that are magically placed upon our world, for all to see.

In true folly...like carving my initials on a tree, it also gives me an opportunity to leave a legacy of sorts - long after I've turned to dust.

And the prime directive as far as I'm concerned, is to try and create a song or a piece of music which will survive the test of time...perhaps even transcend it.

Almost magnetically, I'm instantly attracted to a strong melody. I shudder at the inadequate notion of being defined by, or categorised into a particular genre. 

From the Rat Pack to Fleetwood Mac, Mancini to Madonna, Bacharach to Bowie, Sting to Sade...or from anything Beatles to Everything But the Girl, 

I'm forever at the mercy of a great tune...and a slave to a killer hook! Most, if not all of my musical inspirations, stem from the marvellous magic of melody.

I can't think of a better reality - than writing an album's worth of material, recording those same songs and then ultimately, performing them live. Hit repeat :)
